Mahjong is a timeless tile-based game that has been played across Asia for over 300 years and is now gaining global popularity. Unlike poker, where you recognise the cards instantly, Mahjong requires learning the tiles and rules before you can play—and that’s where many beginners struggle.
We’ve often heard how friends and family don’t always have the patience to teach every detail, and after hours of trying, beginners still feel confused about the game.

From Zero to Hero
We’ve broken down Mahjong learning into two structured steps, each covered in a 2-hour workshop:
Newbie Level 1 – Start playing right away! In this session, we’ll introduce you to the tiles, sets, and winning hands while guiding you through the basic rules and game rhythm. By the end of the session, you’ll feel confident and ready to play Mahjong with others. We keep it simple, focusing on the fundamentals and avoiding scoring rules and special hands.
Not-So-Beginner Level 2 – Ready to take your skills to the next level? This workshop dives deeper into Mahjong rules, sharpens your strategy, and helps you master scoring and bonus points, making you a more competitive player.
Just Play – Want to play more games and enjoy the experience? Book a seat at the Just Play Table, where you can enjoy the game with others in a fun, relaxed atmosphere without instruction, you could be either Level 1 or Level 2 graduates to book this table.

Workshop Details
Time 1: 1:00pm -3:00pm for Not-So-Beginner Level 2 Workshop
Time 2: 1:00pm -3:00pm for Just Play without instructors
Time 3: 3:30pm – 5:30pm for Newbie Level 1 Workshop
Where: Dear Asia Aldgate Centre E1
Who: Everyone from complete beginners to not so beginners, come alone or come with your friends / family
How much: £36 for two full hours of workshop, £12 for two full hours of just play
Important Notes
- Each attendee must be registered to our building in addition to the Eventbrite ticketing. If you book two tickets, we will need both individuals’ full names and email addresses for registration.
- There may be times when we don’t have equally four players per table. In such cases, we’ll combine players to ensure each table can have play full games, with guidance from our instructor of course.
