Cultural introduction

Each spring, Japan transforms into a sea of soft pink as cherry blossoms, or sakura, bloom across the country. The fleeting beauty of these blossoms has been cherished for centuries, symbolizing renewal, hope, and the transient nature of life.

Sakura Matsuri, or the Cherry Blossom Festival, is a beloved tradition that brings people together to celebrate the arrival of spring. Families and friends gather under blooming trees for hanami (flower viewing), sharing food, laughter, and songs as they admire the delicate petals drifting in the breeze.

Beyond its beauty, sakura holds deep cultural meaning in Japan. The blossoms remind people to appreciate the present moment — to find joy in what is temporary and to welcome change with grace. During this season, towns and parks are filled with pink lanterns, festive stalls, and traditional sweets like wagashi, all inspired by the cherry blossom’s elegance.
