It commemorates the patriotic poet Qu Yuan\, who\, according to legend\, drowned himself in protest against political corruption. To honour him\, local people raced out in boats to try to save him or recover his body\, giving rise to the tradition of dragon boat racing. \n\n\n\nThe festival is also associated with warding off evil and promoting health. People hang herbs\, wear perfume pouches (香包\, xiāng bāo)\, and eat zongzi (sticky rice dumplings)\, which were originally thrown into rivers to protect Qu Yuan’s spirit and keep bad luck away. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWant to hire us? \n\n\n\nBespoke event for you! \n\n\n\nDear Asia is a London-based event organiser specialising in creative workshops celebrating Asian cultures. While it is not traditionally a major family-focused holiday like Seollal (Lunar New Year) or Chuseok\, it has become a popular occasion for couples\, friends\, and young people to spend time together. \n\n\n\nCities are decorated with bright lights\, festive displays\, and Christmas trees\, creating a lively winter atmosphere in places like Seoul. People often celebrate by going out for meals\, meeting friends\, exchanging small gifts\, or enjoying seasonal treats in cafés and restaurants. \n\n\n\nChristmas in Korea blends global festive traditions with contemporary culture\, focusing on shared experiences\, enjoyment\, and spending meaningful time with others during the winter season. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWant to hire us? \n\n\n\nBespoke event for you! \n\n\n\nDear Asia is a London-based event organiser specialising in creative workshops celebrating Asian cultures.
