Cultural introduction

Chinese shadow puppetry (中国皮影戏, Zhōngguó pí yǐng xì) is a traditional performing art with a history of over a thousand years. Using hand-carved, vividly painted leather puppets and the interplay of light and shadow, storytellers bring ancient myths, historical legends, and folklore to life in a captivating performance.

Beyond entertainment, shadow puppetry serves as a window into Chinese culture, preserving traditional stories and moral lessons across generations. Each puppet reflects incredible craftsmanship and regional artistic styles, making every performance a celebration of art, storytelling, and cultural heritage. Historically, these performances were part of festivals, temple fairs, and community gatherings, helping to bring people together and strengthen social bonds.
